For anyone wondering – high blood sugar is not an acute emergency like low blood sugar is. If you suspect someone is having a diabetic emergency, always assume that it is because of low blood sugar.
Giving sugar to a person with high blood sugar won’t kill them, but not helping someone with low blood sugar will.
But… if you have very high glucose readings from a finger prick or glucose monitor, check your ketones. Keto-acidosis is no joke and can also kill you.
