LED Grow Light Guide and also Considerations Before Purchasing

LED Lights Gaining Popularity
Many farmers believe that LED lights are the only choice.

While LED lights are prominent there might be extra choices to think about than some farmers understand, also with-in this group.

Also, there are various other affordable source of lights that farmers might intend to at the very least think about prior to buying their lights.
LED Light Category
Goal is to make use of complete range LED lights
Plants can gain from greater than simply the same level when it concerns expanding and also generating additional substances.

Avoid high the same level “purple” LED lights
Makes everyday plant checks harder
Limited range despite the fact that it concentrates on Ps range
LEDLight Considerations
Less Heat Output
*This does not suggest NO warmth outcome.
Longevity
Compared to various other lights the hrs that LED lights generate 80% of the initial outcome is generally much longer.
In some situations a lot longer (HPS = 5,000 hrs and also LED = 75,000 hrs.
Avoid inner followers.
If a light calls for inner followers and also the follower fails it will certainly trigger getting too hot and also inevitably light failing.
Typically the mechanical followers will certainly fall short quicker than the digital diodes.

LED Coverage Area
Growers require to examine the PPF map for any type of lights they are taking into consideration as commonly with LED lights there is much less insurance coverage location than various other high strength lights they might have utilized in the past.

Also, examine the recommended installing elevation from the plants.

Often a lowered range from the plant tops can additionally restrict the insurance coverage location.
1:1 Replacements
Most expanding locations (particularly blooming locations) are based off making use of HPS (High Pressure Sodium) lights.
Few LED lights are thought about to be a 1:1 substitute for HPS lights.
This is particularly real to the 1000watt HPS lights.

However, there are some designs being established to enable this simple substitute as farmer chose to alter from HPS to LED.

*Just prepare to pay a high ahead of time price for these kinds of lights and also agree to readjust your expanding problems.
LED Custom Spectrums
This is an instance where the lights innovation is being successful of the plant scientific research.

Knowing the “ideal” lights range dish is still being investigated.

Research is suggesting that UV and also much traffic signal have an influence on plant development and also growth.
LED Panels
Most usual kind of LED lighting fixture.
Typically consist of heatsinks and also a chauffeur as a solitary device.

LEDBars
LED bars are a little less costly than panels.
The bar is solitary row of diodes that are available in various ranges.
Single bars ought to be utilized in little expanding locations or as extra supplementary light.
The form makes them an excellent option for a smaller sized rectangle-shaped expanding area such as a 4ft. X 2ft. camping tent.
Multiple bars connected with each other can be utilized in bigger range procedures.
LEDBulbs
LED light bulbs are utilized to be a very easy substitute of CFL light bulbs.
Growers might make use of these for blending and also matching ranges, yet a reflective hood would certainly be advised to raise effectiveness.
LED Light Warnings
Technology is proceeding the boost at a quick price.
Current innovation leads the plant scientific research.
*Particularly when it concerns range dishes.

The insurance coverage location for each and every light is essential as often the minimized plant to light spacing can restrict the insurance coverage location.

The price of the light demands to be thought about because a lot of the moment great lights are not low-cost and also low-cost lights are bad.

Some research study is revealing that fallen leave temperature level can have an influence on plant manufacturing so if you are switching over from a high strength lights (such as HPS) you can anticipate distinctions.

Heating and cooling system modifications are most likely.

  1. I’ve got three years on spiderfarmer sf-4000. They work great. And they still produce close to as much as they did new. They have run continuous these last three years.
As for the hvac switch I was already running hid lights so the change was great on my hvac from lower cooling temps from leds. Plus I was able to eliminate the ducting for hids

    1. @DeBacco University when I upgraded I knew how many amps each light I was replacing used. Instead of buying a 1000 watt equivalent led I bought enough lights to run the same amps as hid lights. So if 10 amps for hid I run same amount led. I get the same density as with hid without all the heat. I don’t need a chiller anymore for my dwc setup. The a/c does a good job in regulating temp. So a lot less heat and I get better colors in the plants than with hid. Same amount of power is being used for lights as before but now I use about a third in electric cooling the tent.

    2. @DeBacco University I’ve been the last six months experimenting with hanging the leds on the sides of tent for supplemental lighting. The simplicity of led vs a sealed hid light makes thing like this easier to do. I plan on later this year upgrading to a light bar setup like you showed and use these on side of tent to supplement light.

  2. LED lights do run cooler, but I still cool them the same way I did my HPS lights. Most growers use the common cool dry air coming in at the bottom of the tent and warm moist air out at the top.
I push cool dry air in at the top past my lights and the warm moist air out on the other side. It goes in to an external tent that cools, takes the excess moisture out, and adds fresh air from the intake and then pushes that air back in to the tent with the plants.
The CO2 from the fresh air falls down over the canopy as it goes past the lights. I figured this out by accident, I was trying to get the climate just right. I had budgeted to replace my lights every year and have not had to replace a single light and all of them have had a range of 10-15% reduction in par ratings.
Everyone of my growmies say their lights are dead or putting out half par at the one year mark.
This is just my experience, I could be super lucky but I believe it is because my lights run cooler.

    1. @DeBacco University exactly, we need to see if its cost is beneficial or wank factor for cannabis crops. I wonder what it’s affect will be during veg like uv/ir has a strange impact during veg.
Im happy to test in Australia 😂 I would love to take your courses! such awesome brains ❤️

  3. Short version: Is it important to calibrate a pH meter at 25c or not?

    Long version:
I apologize for posting a question unrelated to the subject of this video. I have become a bit desperate as I can find no info on the subject of how to calibrate a pH meter in which they talk about temperature during calibration, and I thought a recent video, from a channel I trust, might be the way to get an answer.

I must be misunderstanding something, because I do know that pH depends on temperature and my calibration fluids have an actual chart of the changes in pH at different tempuratures, so, to me, this seems like you must calibrate at the recommended temp of 25c, and yet, in dozens of “how to calibrate” videos, this is never mentioned.

Can someone point me to a video that explains this?

I guess if the answer is “yes, you must calibrate at 25c” it would make sense with my current understanding, but if the answer is “no, you can calibrate at any temperature”, I would be confused as to how this is possible.

  4. Ah yes…. lights… for years I didn’t grow or start indoors, thank you common household lights that I have on anyways, you have saved me a literal fortune. Spectrum bla bla, put your plants near a window too, saves you time if you know what you’re doing which isn’t hard.
