Making a modern decorative cabinet using cheap 2x4s from the home center. Brought to us by Squarespace. For 10% off your first purchase, go to: http://squarespace.com/makesomething I wanted to try something different and challenge myself and see if I could use cheap 2x4s from the home center and make a stunning piece of fine furniture. Even though I was pretty picky when selecting these 2x4s they still had their flaws.

I was surprised in Italy how most of their wood furniture is made of pine, and i was told obviously it because they have pine forests. Pieces that were 50-100 years old with little to no wood movement…
those pines are properly dried for fine woodworking.
if you gave painted it also, nobody would guess it was pine 2×4, well until someone picks it up.
Speak your mind. It makes me.feel better cuz inalways feel like I should know what I am doing in the garage and rarely do I have a clue. It’s nice to see other woodworkers talking to themselves and working stuff out!
Always wear a seatbelt when flying your car above freeways man!!
Great video. I would have used 2x10s. I think you can get better boards and it costs less. I love my Festool ETS EC and my Harborfreight f-clamps. I have had the clamps for over 10 years, and they still work like new. If it works why pay more?
I have found at least at the home depot i shop at that there 2x4s are a waste of money. worst most beaten up, knotty, twisted pieces of garbage known to mankind. There 2x6s however are much nicer, I even found a couple of boards that were perfectly flat with not a single knot along the entire length. I recommend using 2x6s instead of 2x4s for your furniture 😉
HB makes great clamps
I built an 18th century style Queen Anne lowboy (with cabriole legs and hand-dovetailed drawers) using pine and poplar from the home center. I wasn’t sure I could build it so I didn’t want to waste expensive hardwood. Once I finished it I started the tiger maple one.
Omg, talk about turning nothing into something absolute genius.
Plans for this?
Not arc nor arch, try radius
Actually arc. 🙃
Sweet!
Damn, this dude’s workshop is nicer than my actual living space. I’m seriously low-key jealous as hell.
Wait…. is it arc or arch? Which one are we talking about?
